Tear Trough Treatment

My patient came to me concerned with her dark circles and felt like she was constantly looking tired. She is not alone in this as it is an enquiry I get often from both men and women. Dark circles are usually caused by hollowing in the tear trough which is a deep indentation between the eye and nose. These indentations can get worse as we age and are a result of sagging skin and volume loss caused by a loss of facial fat underneath.

As the face ages these changes can give the appearance of lower eye bags and dark circles. The dark colour occurs because this loss of tissue allows the deeper dark purple muscle layer to show through. Often a bag will appear as this loss of structure causes a loss of support to the tissues directly under the eye which will then begin to bulge unsupported. The darkness is further exacerbated by the shadowing caused by this troughing and bagging.
In the past, it was thought that only surgery could improve eye bags, and there were no effective treatments for the annoying dark circles under the eyes but now a very effective treatment is the use of a prescription substance to replace lost volume. This is a subtle treatment but one that can make significant improvement to the area.

Treatment

I used a very careful multiple-puncture technique, deep just above the orbital bone depositing small boluses, and massaging them and moulding them carefully along the way. The procedure takes only 15 minutes and the results are truly amazing. This procedure rejuvenates the tired aging face and the results can last as long as 12 months.
